The annual international food and hospitality trade extravaganza, Aahar, kicked off in the city on Wednesday. In its silver jubilee year now, the four-day event, that ends tomorrow, has attracted 450 participants, including 28 overseas stalls from countries such as the US, Bangladesh,
Canada, Italy and Switzerland.

The fair, that is largely open to business visitors, has stalls dedicated to processed foods, alcoholic beverages, packaging, dairy and confectionery equipment, etc.

Aahar is also playing host to the sixth edition of Culinary Art India 2010 (CAI), where more than 160 chefs are taking part in a series of competitions.

“We’ve had competitions on vegetable and fruit carving, butter and margarine sculptures, three-tier wedding cakes, breakfast menus and more. We want the industry to spot new talent and make it a learning experience for students,” said chef Vivek Saggar of the CAI organising committee.

Aahar is open to public from 2 pm to 6 pm tomorrow  at Pragati Maidan, Hall 1-6
