Home Minister P Chidambaram on Tuesday said the terror attack on German Bakery in Pune last month was a "blot on our record" as it could not be averted despite intelligence being shared well in advance about the specific target. Replying to questions in the Lok Sabha, he asserted that
there was no intelligence failure as enough information was shared with the Maharashtra and Pune police about the Pune attack and other soft targets, including German Bakery.

"Despite intelligence sharing, it (Pune terror attack) occurred, it is a blot on our record," Chidambaram said.

Giving details of the information shared with Maharashtra government, he said on October 9, 2009, the Pune police was given written advisory on intelligence about soft targets including German Bakery and the manager working with the bakery acknowledged the same.

"...Unfortunately, German Bakery did not heed this advice," Chidambaram said.

Pune terror attack on February 13 left 17 persons dead.

With regard to steps being taken by the government to avoid such incidents, the Minister said the Central government monitors and reviews the internal security situation in the country on a continuous basis.

"Intelligence inputs are regularly shared with state governments and Union Territory Administrations and wherever necessary, advisories are also issued," he said.
