Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party Bhim Singh was on Wednesday taken into preventive custody alongwith ten of his supporters ahead of his proposed march to Lal Chowk, police said. Singh along with his supporters tried to march to Lal Chowk from nearby
Residency Road around 10 AM, an hour ahead of schedule, but police swing into action and bundled him and ten of his supporters in waiting police vehicles and lodged them in Kothi Bagh police station, they said.

The Panthers chief had announced the march to Lal Chowk to initiate a "real" political process in the state and had invited all political parties, including separatists and stone pelters.

JKNPP is the first recognised party to have given a cal for march to Lal Chowk.

Blaming the National Conference and Congress for the present situation in the Valley, Singh has been demanding dismissal of the Omar Abdullah-led coalition government for its alleged failure to protect the lives of the people.
