Over a dozen shops were gutted on Saturday when a major fire broke out in a market in Kupwara district in north Kashmir, police said.

However, there was no report of any casualty.

A blaze was noticed at a shop in the main market in Sogam, 100 km from Srinagar, in the morning and within no time, the flames spread to adjoining shops despite efforts by the Fire and Emergency Services personnel to control it, they said.

A total of 16 shops were damaged in the fire, they said, adding the cause of the blaze is yet to be ascertained.
