Shramjeevi Sanghatana, a social organisation which belongs to Vasai MLA Vivek Pandit, will organise a march from Gaondevi Maidan to the Thane District Collector’s office on Sunday, to protest against the police lathicharge that took place at Vasai on March 5.  Inspector general of
police Parambir Singh is carrying out an inquiry into the incident.

The police caned Pandit and his supporters. He was forcefully admitted to Thane Civil Hospital to break his three-day fast. He had sat on an indefinite hunger strike to protest the inclusion of 53 villages in the Vasai-Virar municipal corporation.

He said there is a need to change police laws and there should be guidelines for the police on how and when to use force. Pandit has also asked for strict action against Deputy Superintendent of Police, Deepak Devraj.
