Loose fittings of lead wires in Improvised Explosive Devises (IEDs) planted by the Pakistani attackers at three sites on November 26, 2008, saved the city from further damage.
Anthony Steven Mathews, in-charge of the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS), on Tuesday revealed this
before the special court, while deposing as a court witness.
Special Judge M.L. Tahaliyani examined Mathews regarding the disposal of three bombs containing 8 kg RDX each and defence lawyer K.P. Pawar posed questions to him during cross-examination.
Two of the bombs were planted by the Lashkar-e-Tayyeba hitmen outside Taj Mahal Palace and Tower while the third was found on December 3, 2008, inside Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus amidst a pile of luggage.
Mathews said all the bombs were ready-to-trigger devices.
“But, when we opened the aluminum containers, the lead wires hung out,” said the officer.
“The wires were not connected properly,” he added.
