Planned and executed under the direct supervision of Pakistan’s military officials, the 26/11 attacks are an example of state-sponsored terrorism, special public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam told the special court hearing the case on Tuesday. This is the first time the government has
held Pakistan directly responsible for the Mumbai strikes.

Nikam, who started his final argument in the case against Pakistani gunman, Mohammed Ajmal Amir Kasab, and two local Lashkar operatives, made these charges in the presence of Home Minister R.R. Patil who attended court on Tuesday.

“The attacks were  planned and executed under the supervision of persons directly connected with the Pakistani security apparatus,” Nikam said, citing paragraphs from Kasab’s confessional statement.

He pointed to references to the presence of a Pakistan major general at Lashkar camp, where the 10 attackers were trained as well as the involvement of Pakistan army colonel R. Sadatullah who booked Net telephony so the attackers could speak to their handlers.
