The Common Admission Test (CAT) website,
www.catiim.in, had a virus malware on Tuesday night.
People who logged on to the website found a stern warning in red stating: Visiting this site may harm your computer.
CAT is the entry criteria for the
prestigious Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs). This is the second year that the exam has gone online.
Last year, the online exam was a fiasco with computers across examination centres crashing because of technical glitches.
So, the website crashing on Tuesday night had aspirants panicking about another series of glitches.
PaGaLGuY.com, a website for management aspirants, was flooded with comments on the malfunction.
Prometric, the agency conducting the exam, issued a statement saying that the issue was solved and the affected site provided information on CAT to candidates and does not store or contain any candidate information.
It read: “A malware was discovered and removed over night. It will take several hours for the warnings to disappear from Google Chrome. As is stated at the bottom of the candidate registration page, we advise candidates to use the following approved browsers: Internet Explorer version 7 or above, or Firefox version 3.0 and above.”
Giving students other options, Prometric recommended that other alternative website https://iim.prometric.com/, the Prometric website for accepting candidate applications and appointments.
