The Bombay High Court on Friday sought clarification from the Union Ministry of Environment and Forest on the FSI applicable to Wankhede stadium. The stadium will host World Cup Cricket 2011. The division bench of Justice FI Rebello and Justice JH Bhatia has asked the municipal
corporation to submit a list of all constructions in the stadium complex after 1991 when Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) notification was issued.

The order came following a petition by Amit Maru, who challenged the use of railway land by Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) for redevelopment of the stadium.

He contended that the redevelopment work was being done without mandatory prior approval of CRZ authorities.

The HC sought clarification from the MOEF as the petitioner’s lawyer Y.P. Singh contended that the MCA has utilised about 0.5 FSI against the permissible limit of 0.15. Singh has raised questions about mandatory requirement of providing green belt around the stadium. The HC asked the Railway Board to decide within four weeks an application filed by MCI, seeking permission to carry out the redevelopment near railway tracks.

The application was kept pending in view of the proceedings on before the HC.
