The DNA profiling report has nailed the four foreigners—three Mexicans and a Venezuelan—in the sensational Rs. 6.6 crore diamond heist from the India International Jewellery Show (IIJS) at Goregaon (e), last month.
Highly placed sources in the crime branch told HT on Sunday that the DNA
profiling test on the body tissues found in a parcel, meant for Rome, has matched with the four arrested accused.
The parcel had been intercepted by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) at the airport. The parcel had been booked as ‘clothings’ with DHL courier by Perez Hender Valmore, the fifth and absconding accused, for an address in Rome, Italy.
The sleuths found multiple pairs of used clothes in the parcel. On close scrutiny, 1641 pieces of diamonds were found kept inside a jacket pocket. Biological samples were collected from the clothes and sent for forensic analysis (DNA profiling) to ascertain their users. Joint commissioner of police, crime, Himanshu Roy told HT that the profiling had matched with that of those collected from the accused following their arrest. Police said the Mexican passports, which three of the arrested accused were carrying, was fake.
