The sessions court on Friday acquitted a 24-year-old man who allegedly stabbed an advocate in August 2007, due to lack of evidence and prosecution’s failure to prove the case.
The Dadar police said Sunil Singh stabbed advocate Mohammed Chouhan over a property dispute. They said Chouhan,
a Mahim resident, had a dispute with his landlord since 1997 and had approached the police alleging he was getting underworld threats.
Singh allegedly came to Chouhan’s office in August 2007 and stabbed him. Passersby nabbed Singh, while he was trying to flee, and handed him over to the police. Chouhan suffered serious injuries. The police recovered a knife from Singh.
During the trial, the prosecution examined 14 witnesses. Chouhan himself was a key witness.However, the court acquitted Singh. He was given a lawyer from the legal aid panel.
Chouhan told HT, “I will challenge the order in high court...” He expressed shock at the judgment as “witnesses were in favour of prosecution”.
