“We never expected Jitin to go to this extreme. He is dead for me now,” said K D Dedhia, whose son Jitin (41), a grocer from Lalbaug, hired men to kill his wife Beena (38).
Standing on the doorway of his third-floor flat in Megh Chaya building in the area, K D Dedhia (64) kept repeating
the words: “What is done is done. My son has shamed the entire family.
Jitin was in love with Rupal Chhedda (39), the wife of Beena’s brother, Paresh, and had hired three men to kill Beena. On October 27, when Jitin and Beena were out for their morning walk at 5.45 am at GD Ambedkar Marg in Kalachowkie, two men on a motorcycle attacked them.
One of them snatched Beena’s chain, slashed her throat, and stabbed her in the stomach, then injured Jitin on the arm to make it look like a robbery. Jitin then told the police the men were chain-snatchers.
Police said Jitin wanted a divorce but Beena had refused. “Jitin and Beena used to fight like any other married couple but he never gave us the slightest hint about his plans. Now we know that Jitin and Rupal had been having their affair since five years,” said Dedhia.
“My family has been broken because of a love affair but my son was never the violent type. Rupal must have brainwashed him and asked him to eliminate Beena,” he added.
Jitin’s mother is still in shock and refuses to speak. “Jitin is our only son and his son is our only grandchild but now because of Jitin, I will never be able to face him,” said Dedhia. Beena’s mother, who lives in the Shantidoot building in Hindmata at Dadar, declined to comment.
