The Bhau Daji Lad museum is all set for a tech upgrade. While the revamped website (http://bdlmuseum.org) will also soon offer virtual tours, art and history lovers are already logging on to the museum’s Facebook page — Dr Bhau Daji Lad Mumbai City Museum — to
check out upcoming shows and events.

By the end of the year, they can also head to the museum, situated within the Byculla zoo compound, for a high-tech audio tour.

The headsets for these tours use infrared sensor technology to automatically play audio content corresponding to the exhibit a visitor is facing. The audio content will be available in English, Marathi and Hindi. Each tour costs Rs 25.

“The idea behind these efforts is to recapture the original intent and spirit of the museum,” said Tasneem Mehta, honorary director of the museum. “We want to make the museum more exciting and encourage a wider audience to engage with these works.”

The Facebook page already has 478 members — and among the updates they receive are details of contemporary shows by Indian artists, another new feature at the museum.
