Maharashtra will have a university that will exclusively govern all government and private technical institutes in the state by the end of this year.
There are close to 500 technical colleges in the state, affiliated to various universities, and bringing them under one umbrella will
ensure uniformity in syllabus, fee structure, quality of education and governance.
Rajesh Tope, technical and higher education minister, made the announcement on Tuesday.
“All technical colleges/institutes will be brought under one umbrella,” said J.S. Sahariya, principal secretary, technical and higher education. “The policy was in the making and we will go for approval very soon.”
The state already has such exclusive universities for health sciences, agriculture/fisheries sciences and veterinary sciences. The technical university is likely to be based on similar patterns, Sahariya said.
