Five foreigners, including a woman, are suspected to be behind the Rs 6.6-crore diamond heist at the India International Jewellery Show being held at Goregaon’s NSE Grounds on Monday. Cobi Itzchaki, managing director of the Israel-based Dalumi Group, whose diamonds were stolen, and
employee Guy Vyas filed a police complaint at Goregaon (East) police station.

Police officers investigating the case said the five suspects entered the trade fair and visited several stalls for potential business.

The police have identified the five suspects based on CCTVs installed at the venue. The recordings show the five suspects roaming around Dalumi’s display table around 4.30 pm. “It shows that the woman picked up a box full of diamonds from the display and put it in her bag,” said an officer investigating the case.

Suresh Shinde, senior police inspector of Goregaon (East) police station, said: “We will now scrutinise the CCTV recordings and also try to trace the culprits through the entry passes distributed for the event.”

Shinde explained that all invitees at the exhibition had entry passes, which were distributed by the organisers of the trade fair.

The police will now look at the invitees’ list and all related documents.

“At present, we are recording the statements of employees of Dalumi to determine the sequence of events,” Shinde said.

Ruchika Mittal, who is part of the event organising team, said she was near the exit gate when she learnt about the missing diamonds. “As soon as the news broke, we started checking people at the exit, but it is possible that the robbers escaped before that,” she said.

Deven Bharti, additional commissioner of police (crime), said: “We are investigating the case.”
