Inspector Pradeep Suryavanshi, arrested on Thursday by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the ‘fake’ encounter killing of alleged Chhota Rajan gangster Ramnarayan Gupta alias Lakhan Bhaiya, was remanded in judicial custody till March 10 by a magistrate’s court on Friday.
Public
prosecutor S.S. Kasture told the court on Friday that though they were not seeking police custody of Survyavanshi immediately, they could seek it in future.
Survyavanshi’s lawyer S.S. Gandhi moved three applications in the court. The court allowed his first application in which he requested that Survyanshi be kept in Thane jail.
“There are many gangsters lodged in Arthur Road jail and Kalyan jail but in Thane jail Survayavanshi would be safe,” Gandhi told the court. Survyavanshi's other two applications — on home food and of getting treatment would be heard Saturday.
Seven persons, including senior inspector Pradeep Sharma, had earlier been arrested by the SIT in connection with the case.
