The Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) report has forced the civic agencies in the city to spring into action. They are reviewing all of their ongoing projects to nail down any sort of discrepancy in the work.
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on their part has started looking
into the questions raised by the CVC.
The CVC had questioned the MCD's streetlights and parking projects.
Delhi mayor Prithvi Raj Sawhney has called a meeting on Monday, asking MCD commissioner for a report into the matter and provide all the data and files related to the two projects as well as others.
“In the name of Commonwealth Games a lot of money is being spent. There have to be checks and balances and I have asked the commissioner to furnish all the data about the projects,” he added.
The mayor has also ordered an internal inquiry by the vigilance department to scrutinise all the tender documents and project files. “We are ready for a CBI inquiry. All those found guilty will be severely punished,” said Sawhney.
The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has already carried out verifications which were required and they have found no lapses and claim that the quality of the work being done is fine and according to the required standards.
NDMC spokesperson Anand Tiwari said, “The CVC reports are about six months old. Subsequently non-destructive tests according to the standard code have been carried out and have been found in order. These were communicated to CVC sometime ago. Subsequently, tests carried out by our vigilance and a third party found the strength to be fine.”
“If further verification is required by the CVC it shall be got done,” Tiwari added.
Delhi public works department minister Rajkumar Chauhan maintained the stand taken by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit that Delhi government had yet to get any communication from the CVC.
“In any case, we have saved about R 250-275 crore in various projects. We have a very strong third party audit system to ensure good quality construction and material,” said Chauhan.
