The Commonwealth Games organizers have planned an elaborate transport system to ferry athletes, officials, delegates and media persons during the 12-day mega event.
The transport plan put in place by the Games Organising Committee (OC) is based on a five-tier system.
About 7,500
athletes, Games officials and others will be required to be ferried from the Games village, hotels and other accommodation to the venues spread across Delhi and NCR.
The transport system will be jointly managed by the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) and car manufacturer Tata Motors, which has been roped in.
"Transport is the backbone of the Games and we have to put in place a huge network of transport comprising buses and cars," OC Secretary General Lalit Bhanot said.
There will be five different categories as per different needs.
The T1 category would have a fleet of 485 dedicated luxury cars which will be used by the top level officials including Commonwealth Games Federation chief Mike Fennell, while under T2 category on-call car service would be operational on the days of the Games with a fleet of 1,000 cars.
The T3 and T4 categories would consist of fully air-conditioned buses from DTC.
Other public transports, including the DTC and the special metro services would come under the last category.
