The Capital reported 246 cases of swine flu on Wednesday — the highest for a single day. This has taken the total number of people affected with the H1N1 influenza A virus to 6,598. The previous highest number in a day in the Capital was on December 4, when 186 cases were reported.

“At least 246 positive cases of swine flu were reported in the last 24 hours. This is the highest number for a single day so far,” said Dr Anjan Prakash, the state appointed nodal officer for swine flu cases.

Delhi has reported 35 deaths due to swine flu so far. According to sources, a 35-year-old woman died of swine flu at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital late Tuesday night.

The government is yet to confirm the death. Despite high numbers of positive cases, the Delhi health department seems to be doing a good job.

Sources said the government’s policy of tracking contacts, testing and administering Tamiflu on time is helping the cause. “The people seem to be better aware, thanks to our campaigns and awareness drives,” said Health Minister Kiran Walia.
