After 14 people lost their lives in mishaps involving the Delhi Metro in the past six months, DMRC has trained over 25,000 people engaged in its construction activities on how to avoid accidents during work.
DMRC undertook a special drive in July for special training of the workers and
supervisors of all the contractors working at its construction sites after the Zamrudpur incident where a under-construction bridge collapse left seven persons dead.
"All the construction companies were directed to arrange a crash training programme of minimum three days duration, equivalent to 18 hours of training exposure to all their employees working at sites including sub-contractor workers," Minister of State for Urban Development Saugata Roy said.
"More than 25,000 workers have been trained under this special drive," he told Lok Sabha in a written reply.
He said the government had also asked all the Metro authorities and Chief Secretaries of states which are constructing the new age transport system to ensure that adequate preventive measures are put in place.
A total of 11 mishaps were reported between May and October this year at the DMRC construction sites which claimed the lives of 14 people and injured 24 others.
