Abandoned by everyone and alone as ever, 49-year-old Shalini Mehra was accompanied by just a few police officers who took her to a mental health facility. Last week, Mehra was found with her mother’s skeleton from her ground floor house in south Delhi’s Saket. According to the
police, Mehra is mentally unstable and was living with her mother Vinodini Gupta’s body for the last four months.

The police had earlier said that they would send Mehra for counselling.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) H.G.S. Dhaliwal said, “We have sent her to mental health home. She will be well taken of at the place.”

The police added that Mehra didn’t even realise that her mother was dead.

Last week, Gupta’s decomposed body was recovered when a Delhi Jal Board (DJB) official visited the house to check the water meter. He came upon the body and called the police.

According to the police, the psychologist who examined Mehra said that she had gone through a lot of trauma in the past. “Her broken marriage, her claims that her daughter, who is now an MBBS student, was taken away as a child — all have left a deep impact on her mind. She needs counselling and treatment for all this,” the officer added.
