Don’t mess with us! Now, that’s the message coming from top cops handling the Talkatora Stadium for the Commonwealth Boxing Championship starting on Wednesday. On Monday evening, with tournament preparations on in full flow, the cops were leaving no stone unturned to ensure full safety. An army
of policemen thronged not just inside the stadium but also outside it.

Flashing my accreditation card with utmost confidence, I tried to waltz into the stadium. All it took was a brief check at the entry and, within seconds, I was off, looking for a few stories. But soon after entering the ‘main area’ my hopes were dashed. “Please leave from here immediately madam,” said the ‘top cop’ assertively. “And please don’t be here till the 10th. You press people are not allowed,” he added.

The ‘top cop’ gave his piece of mind to everyone around. “I don’t want any nonsense here. I should know everything! If anyone enters this area without my knowledge, I will shoot him down,” he said angrily.

I understood within minutes that this guy was not to be messed with. The ‘top cop’ ensured his kept an eye on me till the time I made a hurried exit.

So, the next time you plan a trip to the Talkatora stadium to see any of the boxing stars make sure the ‘top cop’ isn’t anywhere near you.
