Two woman school teachers were killed and two others injured as unidentified gunmen ambushed a school bus in Pakistan's troubled Bajaur tribal region on Wednesday.

Political authorities said the gunmen fired indiscriminately at schoolteachers Shazia Begum and Shamim Bibi when they were boarding a bus near their school in Khar, the headquarters of Bajaur Agency.

Two men who were injured in the attack were taken to a nearby hospital. Witnesses said the gunmen had specifically targeted the two teachers.

The local administration sealed the area and police launched a search for the gunmen.

Pakistani security forces have been battling the Taliban in Bajaur Agency for the past few months.

No group claimed responsibility for the attack though the Taliban have often attacked girls' schools and women teachers.
