Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on Saturday said the Supreme Court would soon be moved seeking cancellation of bail for Congress leader Sajjan Kumar in an anti-Sikh riot case. Badal, President of Shiromani Akali Dal, alleged CBI on the direction of Congress was "hell bent
on scuttling" the trial of the case relating to Kumar.

He said the apex court should immediately order day-to-day trial of 25 year-old cases of 1984 anti-Sikh riots to expedite justice delivery.

Badal told mediapersons here that Shiromani Akali Dal would also request the Supreme Court to monitor the trial of ’84 riot cases on day-to-day basis as is being done in 2002 Gujarat riot cases to ensure justice to families of Sikh victims.

He alleged people have "lost faith in the impartiality" of CBI and Shiromani Akali Dal would request the apex court to constitute a Special Investigation Team of police officers with impeccable record to investigate the 25- year-old case, collect evidence, provide protection to witnesses and to pursue the cases for prosecution till all culprits were provided exemplary punishment.

He also questioned the motive of CBI of deliberately letting off Congress leader Jagdish Tytler who also faces anti-Sikh riot cases.
