The country's mobile phone market continued to expand at a robust pace with total connections estimated at 65.2 crore as on August 1, thanks to 1.7 crore new subscribers joining the network in July, official data showed Wednesday. According to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India
(TRAI), the wireless phone user base grew 2.7 per cent to 65.2 crore in July, from 63.6 crore in the previous month.

With this the total telephone subscriber base in the country, both wireless and wireline connections combined, touched 68.8 crore. The total telephone density reached 58.2 per cent.

India overtook the US last year to become the second largest telecom market in the world after China, which has 79.5 crore connections.
