Congress-led UDF opposition today staged walkout from the Kerala assembly protesting against attack on a place of worship in Malappuram district, allegedly by CPI-M workers, even as Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said the incident would be probed. Seeking leave for an adjournment
motion on the issue, Abdul Rehaman Rendathani (IUML) said the government was trying to term yesterday's incident as a clash between two sections of a community at Thanoor.

But it was an attack by CPI(M) cadres on IUML workers, he said.

Balakrishnan said the incident was sequel to a dispute prevailed there since the last two weeks.

Ten cases have been registered and five persons arrested in connection with the incidents, he said.

No one should politicise the issue and the government viewed attacks on places of worship very seriously.

Police pickets have been placed and District Superintendent was camping in the area to prevent further incident, he said.

Before walking out, opposition leader Oommen Chandy alleged that IUML workers were the main target.

A IUML worker was killed a few months back in the area and the witness to that incident was now being attacked, he said.

After Balakrishnan's reply, Speaker K Radhakrishnan refused leave for the motion which led to walkout.
