Tension prevailed at a village in Muzaffarnagar in the district after a body of a woman who was allegedly raped and strangled to death was found in a well, police said.
The victim Shakuntala had gone out to collect grass last evening but did not return home. Later, the villagers found her half-naked body in the well at Baheri village, they said.
Enraged over the incident, villagers blocked the road and refused to hand over her body to the police.
After the intervention of senior police officials, the villagers were pacified and agreed to hand over the body.
