As a special case, 14-year-old Delhi boy Sahal Kaushik, who hogged the limelight as the youngest to crack this year's IIT-JEE exam, will stay at home in Kanpur with his mother and not in the IIT-Kanpur hostel where he has taken admission.
Sahal had asked the institute's authorities for
the permission to stay with his mother at his home.
"Sahal is very young so we have given him the permission to stay at his home with his mother. The administration gives permission only in special cases," Registrar of IIT Kanpur, Sanjeev Kasalkar, told PTI.
"There is, however, no problem in staying in the hostel as everybody is ready to cooperate with Sahal but considering his age we have allowed him to be a day-scholar," Kasalkar said.
Sahal, who had secured 33rd rank at all-India level in the IIT-JEE exam this year, has opted for the five-year integrated MSc (Physics) course.
"There is no age limit for admission into undergraduate courses. A student has to be intermediate pass only," Kasalkar said, adding Sahal is the youngest student to take admission in the IIT this year.
Sahal completed his CBSE class 12 from Vandana International School in Dwarka, Delhi, securing 78 per cent marks. His father is an army officer and mother a doctor.
