Angry students on Wednesday allegedly ransacked the principal's office, torched furniture and documents after they were asked to attend more classes in Jagannath Kishore College in Purulia. The police said guardians and students, mostly of Commerce stream, stormed the principal's chamber
and began to damage furniture in a meeting at the college premises today.

The principal had insisted on more than 50 per cent attendance to allow the students for final examination, the police said.

"As per the guidelines of the university, these 41 students have to attend more than half of the classes. The students of Arts and Science streams have agreed to attend more classes to fill the minimum attendance," Principal-in-Charge Abu Sufian told PTI.

Nobody was arrested and fire brigade personnel doused the flames, the police said.

Sufian said the governing body of the college would meet to take decision on the students.
