Are your partner’s irksome bed habits giving you sleepless nights? If you thought going to bed angry after a fight with your lover was bad for your relationship, here is some food for thought. One in 10 adults consider leaving their partner over disturbed sleep, says a recent research by a British hotel chain.
Everyone snores occasionally, but if it happens frequently, it can lead to poor sleep, fatigue, and increased health problems. According to the same study, snoring was the second most common cause of night time squabbles, with one in 10 couples falling out over it at least twice a week.
Half of the 2,000 adults in a relationship questioned in the survey suffered with a snoring spouse, with 20% claiming that they lose two hours of sleep because of it. Interestingly, more than half of the female respondents said that their husband or boyfriend were to be blamed for snoring. So, before you decide to sleep in separate bedrooms, maybe it is a good idea to have a talk with your significant other about it rather than just nudging them over to make it stop.
Other annoying bedroom habits included allowing children to sleep in the marital bed, rolling on to the wrong side of the bed, being touched by freezing cold feet and leaving the lights on to read. In all, these night-time niggles spark 167 tiffs a year for the average couple.
“Our research shows that most of the arguments couples have in the bedroom are down to habits that are easy to resolve as a relationship develops,” says the British hotel’s spokeswoman. Adding to that, she says, “People suffer from snoring to varying degrees, and the research shows it can impact on our day to day lives, especially if one person in the relationship is missing out on much needed sleep.”
