It may be the 21st century, but sexism in Bollywood, Hollywood and sports thrives as well as it always did.
It is glaringly evident – just flip through television channels or open a magazine to see the kind of questions women celebrities get asked, questions that aren’t usually posed to their male counterparts.
Right on top of that list of questions is ‘Is she pregnant?’ or ‘Is she engaged?’
But just because they are on the receiving end of misogynistic vitriol and sexist schemes meant to sell tabloids, doesn’t mean women celebrities are taking it lying down.
From Jennifer Aniston’s impassioned open letter to Sania Mirza’s reply to Rajdeep Sardesai, below are 10 times women celebrities shut down patronising, unflattering misogyny, and spoke out against sexism. Calling a spade a spade, these women have taken on the issue, largely propagated by media, by the horns, championing gender equality in both their industry and society.
