So you're single? It's a great life, and why shouldn't it be? You can party like a rockstar, sleep till whatever time with no one telling you to do otherwise and yes you are free of the many stresses that a relationship can bring.
You can be alone, enjoy your peace, post what you want on social media, go on as many dates a possible, plan girl's/guy's night out without the guilt. You can escape the never-ending mood swings, emotional storms or where-were-you-when-I-needed-you-most coming your way.
Of course there are days when you feel the pressure to settle down. The nagging questions do pop up in your head: should I get serious about someone and willingly kiss my single days good bye? Should I ransom my freedom and embark on the great search for my soul mate? Even worse is the sickening feeling of being surrounded by happy couples- yes we've all been there.
True, a relationship has its perks, but being independent and flying solo is better than being in a relationship.
There are just too many reasons for staying single. We give you the big five (in no particular order):
1 You can take the time to find your soul mate
It's sad, but a lot of people get hitched for the wrong reasons: like, they've reached a certain age, all their friends are tying the knot or are already married, or something as lame as they've not been successful at the dating game till this certain person showed interest and so it must be love!
But, staying single, you can afford to wait for your true love (if one even exists) to pop into the picture. Till then, take time to casually wade through the vicious waters of the dating pool and set your hook for the prized catch. In other words, by holding out for Miss/ Mr Right, instead of 'Miss/Mr Always Right', you can avoid the mistake of a lifetime and marry for love.
2 Do what you want, when you want
When you're single, the world is your oyster. No one is nagging you to do things or 'to grow up'. Best of all, you have the luxury of being all by yourself, if you feel like it. Plus, you're absolutely free to hang out with your buddies, go anywhere, and do anything, at any time of the day or night.
With all the 'free' time you have, you have the perfect opportunity to take the piano class, join the gym, get a new hobby, or start volunteering for social work, like you've always wanted to or do just about anything you fancy.
Just think: no need to check in with someone to let them know who you're with, where you are and what time you're getting home. Freedom.
3 You can focus on your career and not compromise
When you're in a relationship, chances are you're hanging out with your significant other all the time. All the things you loved- the Harley, the movie marathons with friends, the pub-hopping- all seem to magically disappear.
Being single means you don't have to constantly do things you don't feel up to or give up on things you really wish to do. This includes being forced to watch chick flicks with your girl or suffer a sci-fi with your guy. You don't have to meet her/his friends and family you can't stand. You don't have to constantly find a 'middle ground' and 'make things work'.
Without having to drain the tons on energy on a committed relationship, you remain free to put in long hours, work on the weekends and do whatever it takes to reach your career goal. The upside is, once your business or work hits the big time and you're minting more money, meeting cooler people and living a better life, you'll have hordes of men/women throwing themselves at you.
4 More money in your pocket
Being in a relationship is expensive. Don't fool yourself here- dinners out, gifts, mini vacations, long calls/chats, all add up to a significant amount of cash.
Staying single means not being forced into buying your partner a designer watch or taking him/her to that fancy restaurant so he/she can impress his/her friends with the 'classy' things you do as a couple. You're single, so not legally, emotionally or financially obligated to anyone but yourself. So you're saved from having to regularly shell out for the flowers, jewellery, chocolates and other gifts.
Save this money for something that betters you in the long run: a high-end gadget, Smartphone, long-due vacation, car or even a house!
Relationships suck up a great deal of time over the phone- texting, talking and now WhatsApping. Depending on the nature of the relationship, one can easily spend several hours a day over the phone with the significant other. Just think about how much time you can save being single!
Remember, how your social media police of an ex-girlfriend took your 'liking' photos of your school crush and posts on Facebook the wrong way, and had you explain your 'actions' to her for over three yours over the phone? Yes, the wrong post, photo or comment on social media can lead to some very long phone calls. But not in Singlesville.
So, think twice (or maybe thrice) before you get into a relationship. If you still don't believe us, here's a last reason for you to stay single: no (unreasonable, dramatic) fights. Point made.
