Rate your professor

Ever wished you could give your teacher a  zero or grant them 90 per cent for being ‘just-so-cool’? The internet will answer your prayers.  Websites that allow students to rate their professors in terms of teaching, attitude and even dressing sense are fast becoming popular. Rateyourprofessor.com, for example, is an international site that started in 1999. It boasts over 6.8 million student-generated reviews of over 1 million teachers from 6,000 schools.

This website isn’t meant for Indian students, and so in September began myfaveteacher.com. Created by engineer Rajat Agarwal, 22, the portal allows students to vote for their favourite teacher.

“When I was in second year of college, I was frustrated by a teacher and wanted to do something about it. One day, I came across ratemyprofessors.com, but it was not meant for us. So I loaned   money from my brother and started this website,” recalls Agarwal.

The site already has student members from more than 80 colleges across the country. In one month, over 1,400 reviews of teachers have been posted. “My college, JIITU, has the most participation. The Delhi University students from colleges like Delhi College of Arts, St Stephen’s, Kirori Mal College and Delhi College of Engineering are also quite active,” points out Agarwal.

On the site, you can also see the top-rated professors and a comic strip called MFT, which depicts college life. Another Indian website offering a similar service is ApunKaTeacher.com, which started earlier this year. Here, too, students can post reviews of their teachers.
