This has to be good news for the Mumbaikars. How many times have you had to reach for an appointment on time but couldn’t just because you wasted almost half an hour on the road looking for an empty auto rickshaw that’s willing to take you to your destination? This is a usual plight for almost all citizens of Mumbai. No more, it seems.
Rickshawale.com has recently started a tele-booking service where you can call up the number +91-22-25747474 and book a rickshaw for yourself, stating the pickup point and the destination. It is very similar to the way you’d book a radio taxi. Alternatively, you can also visit their website Rickshawale.com and make a booking.
What’s best is there is no premium charge for the service. You are expected to pay the regular meter fare for the journey, with a convenience charge of Rs 20 for the service. Yes, it does turn out to be a bit costly for shorter distances. However, the convenience of getting the rickshaw available right at your door step and not having to worry about getting late again is surely worth the extra 20 bucks most of the time. And by the way, Rickshawale.com does charge a reduced convenience charge of Rs 10 for senior citizens, the disabled and pregnant ladies.
I am not too sure exactly how many rickshaw drivers have enlisted themselves with the service, since their website lists only 8 of them. And oh, in case you are not sure how much it might cost you to reach your destination, their website also has a trip fare calculator that you must try out.
