Accusing Congress of taking a stand against the country’s ‘basic culture and tradition´ by denying the existance of Lord Ram, BJP president Rajnath Singh on Tuesday promised to protect the Ram Setu. BJP would cancel the Setu Samudram project if it was voted to power at the Centre, Singh
told an election meeting in Bhadrak.

“We are committed to protect the country’s heritage including Ram Setu,” he said.

Holding the Congress responsible for the unusual price rise of essential commodities, he said the poor became poorer under the rule of the UPA government.

He also criticised the UPA government for encouraging corruption and nepotism in the country.

Training his guns at erstwhile partner BJD, Singh said it had played the role of a ‘traitor´ by unilaterally breaking the 11-year-old electoral alliance.

“People betray us. We (BJP) never betray anyone,” he said predicting that the party headed by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik would loose the coming Lok Sabha and assembly polls in the state for its act of betrayal.

“BJD will face the fate of JD(S) in Karnataka,” he said.
