Actor Sanjay Dutt will have to celebrate Diwali with inmates in Pune’s Yerwada jail. The Supreme Court on Friday refused to take up his bail plea before the festival, fixing November 20 to hear his application and the substantive appeal challenging the Mumbai special court order
sentencing him to six years’ imprisonment in the 1993 Mumbai blasts case.

Senior advocate V.R. Manohar had sought an early hearing of the plea and said Dutt was convicted only under the Arms Act and not under TADA.

The bench also issued a notice to the CBI on the actor’s plea.

The Supreme Court has relaxed Monica Bedi’s bail restrictions, allowing her to leave her native village in Hoshiarpur, Punjab, after informing the police. The actress had moved court for lifting of the confinement condition claiming she had been flooded with film offers from Mumbai.

Sukhram case

The apex court has dismissed former Union minister Sukhram’s plea for transfer of a disproportionate assets case from the court of special judge G.P. Mittal to another one in the capital. Sukhram had said he apprehended he would not get a fair trial in Mittal’s court.
