Hundreds of people on Thursday gathered at the Lal Chowk in Srinagar and offered prayers in memory of those killed in recent police firing in the Kashmir valley. Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front Chairman Mohammad Yaseen Malik, People's Conference Chairman Sajad Gani Lone and Chairman of
the breakaway JKLF Javid Ahmed Mir led the "gayibana nimaz-e-jinazzah" (prayers in absentia).

The protestors also raised slogans against the police crackdown and staged a demonstration.

At least 21 persons, including senior Hurriyat Conference leader Sheikh Abdul Aziz, were killed and hundreds others wounded during a march to Muzaffarabad.

There have been many demonstrations against "economic blockade" of the valley in the past three days.
