A handful of activists of a community shouted slogans, staged demonstration and tore posters of Bollywood movie Jodhaa Akbar, Ashutosh Gowariker's latest directorial venture, at Metropolitan Mall in Gurgaon on Sunday afternoon. Some activists turned violent and smashed windowpanes at the
mall.

Besides, a noon show of the movie was disrupted for some time at PVR Cineplex. All shows of the movie were, however, screened without disruption at DT Cinema auditoriums at DLF City Center Mall.

Though the police prevented activists to go out to other malls, many moviegoers, who had already bought tickets, decided to stay away and not visit the theatre at a mall on MG Road. PVR officials refrained from making comments on the development.

DCP (East) Satheesh K Balan said some activists of a community were staging demonstration and were demanding withdrawal of the movie from the cineplex. They claimed that some of the historical facts depicted in the movie were incorrect and it hurt the community's sentiments.

"The movie was disrupted for little while. But the movie was soon resumed and situation was restored to normalcy. We managed to bring the situation under control and no arrest was made in this regard,” the DCP added.

Shalini Wadhawa, spokesperson for the DLF Group, said none of the shows at DT Cinema auditoriums at DLF City Centre Mall were disrupted as the activists stayed away from their mall.

"All the shows carried on as usual and no show was withdrawn. But we had removed posters from the outer walls of the mall as precautionary measure," she added.
