Maharashtra Government would approach the Bombay High Court for setting up a fast-track court to conduct trial in the molestation of two NRI women in Mumbai on New Year day.
"We have got nearly all the accused in the case. It is high time that they are punished strictly and without
wasting any time," Deputy Chief Minister RR Patil said while talking to reporters on Friday.
Patil, who also holds the Home portfolio, said the government will be appealing to the High Court for setting up of the fast-track court to try the case, which has sparked a public outrage.
He earlier chaired a high-level 'routine review' meeting at the police HQ in Mumbai along with Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Chitkala Zutshi.
"We will also be writing to the Centre for making provisions in the law to enhance punishment for such offences," he said.
Fourteen people have been arrested in connection with the incident in suburban Juhu, where the two women were molested by a crowd of around 50 men near a five-star hotel on early Tuesday.
