Madhya Pradesh High Court on Wednesday granted bail to Pawas Agarwal, a former BJP leader who had flung a wooden slipper at the party's Prime Ministerial candidate L K Advani during an election meeting in the adjoining Katni district last month. Justice Rajendra Menon granted bail to
Agarwal after his lawyer told the court that his client was not in good frame of mind and his act has not caused injury to anyone.

The court was told that Agarwal was undergoing treatment for mental illness since last couple of months and his doctor's prescription along with other related documents were submitted as proof.

The prosecution opposed Agarwal's bail plea alleging that he created furore at Advani's election meeting at the Forester Ground in Katni on April 16 and when the police tried to take him away he manhandled Assistant Sub-Inspector S K Mishra and even threatened him with dire consequences.

Agarwal has been booked under sections 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty, 294 (obscene act and songs) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.

He has moved the High Court after a local court rejected his bail plea last month.
