Congress on Saturday expressed surprise at the BJP strategy of endorsing Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi as the prime ministerial candidate after LK Advani and asked if the saffron party needs an "insurance". "We are surprised...Does it (BJP) need a cover or a dummy candidate like in
elections. Why do they need insurance? What is their insecurity?" party spokesperson Renuka Chaudhary told reporters in New Delhi.

Chaudhary's response came in the wake of senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley endorsing Modi as PM candidate after Advani at Vadodara. Earlier, former minister Arun Shourie had proposed the name of Modi as the next PM candidate of the saffron party after Advani.

Chaudhary sidestepped a query as to who would be the future prime minister in the contest between Rahul Gandhi and Modi, saying there was no contest and only "future" had the answer.

On Modi's barbs against the Congress, the Congress leader advised the Gujarat chief minister to "speak less and work more", saying "he speaks a lot".
