Most of the deaths at the Oberoi and Trident hotels happened within the first hour — the most in Tiffin restaurant, then Kandahar and then the lobby, PS Oberoi, chairman of the Oberoi group of hotels said on Saturday. After a 48-hour-long operation, security forces rescued 250 people. But 32 people died, including 10 staffers and four foreigners — Japanese, Americans and a Singaporean. When asked about possible security measures that the hotel would take, Oberoi said that they were considering hiring a security expert to help them understand what needed to be done.

“I would like to have armed guards for both hotels, but I suspect that it will take a long time for the government to agree. I also think it’s necessary for us to have cameras not just in the hotel, but also on the road outside,” he said.

The other possible option was to start scanning each guest’s luggage.

"The problem with many of these measures is that security and hospitality don't go hand in hand,” he said.
