There was uproar in the Lok Sabha on Thursday over relief and rehabilitation of victims of 26/11 terror attacks in Mumbai. Leader of the House Pranab Mukherjee refused to respond to Leader of the Opposition L.K Advani’s suggestion that the home ministry should coordinate relief
efforts.

Raising the issue during the zero hour, Advani said only 118 of the 403 affected people had been paid compensation. As many as 164 people were killed and 239 seriously wounded in the attacks.

The BJP leader said 12 agencies — eight in Maharashtra and four at the Centre — were involved in the relief work. Of the 64 people eligible for jobs, only 32 were offered employment by the railways.

“The home ministry should take initiative to coordinate with all the agencies involved in the relief work.”

But as Speaker Meira Kumar invited Congress member Madhu Goud Yaskhi to raise another matter, BJP’s Ananth Kumar asked the government to respond.

An angry Mukherjee said he had rushed to the House to listen to the Leader of the Opposition, and not him. “Every zero hour reference cannot be answered...You are making politics on 26/11,” he said. “You did earlier and were paid back. ... You will again be paid back.”

This led to heated exchange between Mukherjee and the BJP members.
