Congress MP and industrialist Navin Jindal on Friday said that he has forgiven the teacher who hurled a shoe at him here even as his party termed the incident as “bad for democracy” and sought Election Commission’s action. “I pardon the man as he is too old. But proper action must be
taken against him,” Jindal said, adding “it was a wrong step taken by the retired teacher. In a peaceful society nobody has the right to do such things.”

He said that “the man was completely drunk and I have nothing against him as he didn’t harm me”.

The Congress MP alleged that the teacher -- Rajmal Singh Saharan -- is of bad character as earlier also he was suspended from school for misbehaving with a girl.

Jindal, who is contesting from Kurukshetra, did not rule out a conspiracy behind the incident and said that “the shoe was caught on cameras from the time it was thrown till it fell on the ground. It smacks of a conspiracy by someone.”

“The incident is bad for democracy. The Election Commission should take cognisance of the incident and initiate action,” Congress general secretary and in charge of party’s Haryana affairs Prithviraj Chavan said reacting to the shoe-throwing incident in Chandigarh.
