Puducherry Chief Minister V Vaithilingam has described as `untrue and untenable` the criticism by AIADMK leader Jayalalithaa that there was lack of unity among the ministers of the Puducherry government.

Talking to reporters in Puducherry on Friday, Vaithilingam said he was amused over the statement by Jayalalithaa. "Let her first concentrate on restoring mutual trust and cordiality between her party legislators in Puducherry A Anbalagan and Ohm Sakthi Segar".

He claimed that Puducherry had made achievements in various sectors including in health, education, infrastructural development and welfare programmes.

He said that it was only to gain political mileage during elections that Jayalalithaa had made such a criticism aginst his government.

`People of Puducherry know far better than anyone else as to how much care was given to their welfare and welbeing by the government here`, he said.

He said the Congress was taking steps to ensure Puducherry got a full fledged state statue.
