The Congress-NCP government in Maharashtra has cheated people by not controlling the spiralling prices of essential commodities, senior BJP leader LK Advani said in Kolhapur on Saturday. The ruling alliance promised to check price rise within 100 days at the time of last parliamentary
elections. But it "cheated common public by not controlling the prices," Advani said.

"If this front becomes ruling front in Maharashtra again, then experience will be the same." Advani said at a public meeting in Ichalkaranji while campaigning for BJP-Shiv Sena candidate Suresh Halvankar.

He criticised the state government for price hike of sugar, pulses and other essential commodities.

"Congress-NCP government failed in solving the problems of agriculture and farmers, therefore record of suicides of farmers is increasing day by day in Maharashtra," he said.

"Ten years before, BJP-Sena alliance was in power in Maharashtra. At that time BJP-Sena government tried to solve the problems of electricity, water and roads, but after that Congress-NCP front came to power and ignored these problems. Now these problems are haunting the people. Voters must realise it before voting," Advani said.

Advani said that farmers should be given the right to decide the rate of their lands during acquisition deals for industrial purposes.
