Shane Warne is due to call time on his playing career after the Rajasthan Royals' last IPL 4 outing against the Mumbai Indians on Friday. However, the legendary leg-spinner's glorious sojourn would end on a sour note after he was fined $50,000 (approx Rs. 22.5 lakh) for misbehaving with the
Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) secretary Sanjay Dixit.

Following an altercation between Warne and Dixit after the conclusion of Royals' game against Royal Challengers Bangalore at Jaipur last Wednesday, the RCA official filed a complaint against the Royals' skipper.

An IPL enquiry commission, comprising IPL chairman Chirayu Amin and governing council member Ravi Shastri, conducted a hearing here and announced its verdict on Wednesday.

Had Warne not apologised to Dixit before the latter filed a complaint, the commission could have considered a suspension.

"It (the Commission) regards the public criticism of Mr Dixit as being a serious breach by

Mr. Warne of his IPL playing contract," a BCCI statement said.

"However, at the same time, the Commission also recognises that Mr Warne has apologised to Mr Dixit, and that the incident occurred just after the match.

"In addition, the Commission is cognisant of the contribution to the game of cricket in general, and to the Indian Premier League, which has been made by Mr Warne."

Since this was a unique case of a player misbehaving with an official in public, the panel also warned players in case of a similar misconduct in the future.

"The Commission wishes to stress that any future such occurrences committed by Mr Warne or any other person may result in the imposition of a fine, which may be higher than that imposed in this case, a ban for a number of matches, and/or the deduction of points from the relevant team," the statement said.

Former India skipper Ravi Shastri and IPL chairman Chirayu Amin formed the IPL disciplinary commission that held the hearing at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) headquarters on Tuesday.

It remains to be seen if Warne, as he has promised on social micro-blogging site Twitter, will hit back at Dixit after Friday's game.

Overhaul FTP or be ready to witness players making choices

Is the BCCI unfair in expecting its marquee players, in whom they've invested so much, to represent the country in an international game? Or, are the broadcasters unreasonable in insisting that India play their star players each time, since revenues plummet the moment Sachin Tendulkar or MS Dhoni abstain?
