The BJP is likely to announce former health minister Dr Harsh Vardhan as the party’s chief ministerial candidate for the Capital in a bid to end factionalism in the state unit.
Party sources said that the decision in this regard was taken on Sunday but a formal announcement would be made in a few days. The party decided not to make any announcement on Sunday to prevent factionalism coming out in open.
BJP state unit president Vijay Goel’s presser on Monday was also aimed to send “right” signal of all is well in the party before the announcement is made. Goel had said that the parliamentary board would decide on the chief ministerial candidate.
The Delhi unit of the BJP has been faction-ridden, and there apparently was no consensus on declaring Goel as the chief ministerial candidate.
However, most of the state leaders who have been talking with former BJP national president Nitin Gadkari had expressed confidence in Dr Vardhan.
In a bid to make all rally around Vardhan, sources said, that the party has also decided that he would work under guidance of a senior central leader.
