Amid chants of “Bhrastachar ka ek hi kaal, Kejriwal Kejriwal (only one warrior to fight corruption, Kejriwal, Kejriwal)”, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal filed his nomination papers from the New Delhi constituency on Saturday — the last day to sign up for the Delhi polls.

Declaring his assets, Kejriwal said he and his wife had combined assets worth Rs 2 crore, including a plot of land in his name in Ghaziabad and a flat in his wife’s name in Gurgaon.

On criminal cases, the AAP convener said two defamation cases were filed against him by Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit and her political secretary Pawan Khera in which charge sheets have been filed.

Dikshit and the BJP’s Vijender Gutpa are also running from New Delhi, and the three-way contest may just turn out to be the prize fight of the Delhi polls.

On Saturday, 775 candidates filed their papers, taking the total number of nominations to 1,189.

Manjinder Singh Sirsa, who is contesting from Rajouri Garden on a Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) ticket, has turned out to be the richest candidate in the fray with a net worth of Rs 235 crore.

On the other hand, Gulab Singhal, a candidate of the lesser known Bharatiya Naujawan Inklav party who is contesting from the Burari constituency, doesn’t have any asset or even cash in hand, according to the affidavit filed by him.

Jai Kishan (28) a Bhartiya Jan Morcha candidate from Gandhi Nagar assembly turn many heads when he came riding an ox to file his nomination. This was to protest against inflation, he said.

Talking to reporters at the Jamnagar House election office, Kejriwal said the countdown to end Congress “misrule” had begun, “The December 4 polls will bring the curtains down on the 15-year Congress-rule in Delhi.”

The AAP leader said he had been waiting for Dikshit to file her papers, “I am filing on the last day (for filing nominations) because I want to contest against her.” Dikshit filed her papers on Thursday.

AAP’s spokesperson Manish Sisodia also filed his papers for the Patparganj seat.
