Kejriwal watches on as singer Vishal Dadlani abuses AAP rivals at Delhi concert

Neither the sting operation against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidates nor Anna Hazare’s letter to Arvind Kejriwal seems to have affected its supporters.

More than 1,200 supporters, most of them youngsters, who gathered at Jantar Mantar on Saturday for a concert organised by AAP seems to have brushed aside all aspersions cast on the party.

The concert, called Rock the Ballot, saw a number of artists in attendance, including Vishal Dadlani, Shilpa Rao, Rabbi Shergil, Meiyang Chang, Shruti Pathak and Mohan Agnee.

However, a controversy also broke out after the concert as Dadlani reportedly substituted the word “haseeno” for “kameeno” in the song Bachna Ae Haseeno during his performance.

Admitting this on Twitter, Dadlani said that he had not named anyone.

In a series of tweets, he said, “I will happily admit that when it comes to talking about our corrupt politicians, ‘kameeno’ is one of the most polite words I’ve ever used. I’m not a politician. I don’t know how to make flowery speeches. I’m a musician, what I say comes from the heart. When I sang ‘Bachna Ae Kameenon’ at the concert, I didn’t say who I meant.”

Cheering on Kejriwal, Shazia Ilmi and Kumar Vishvas, the crowd clapped and whistled on cue.

Talking about the recent sting, Kejriwal said, “More people are supporting us after the sting operation. The attendance at our rallies has grown three times since it was aired.”

The large number of people who gathered at Jantar Mantar rubbished the allegations too.

“Other political parties are scared of AAP and that is why they are playing such games. We trust Kejriwal and will not abandon the party,” said Nisha Aggarwal, a DU student.

“This is the only party that is talking about the issues that we face every day. Trying to malign candidates is a very old tactic and we will not fall for it,” said Mahinder Kumar, a street vendor present at the event.

The strong turnout, AAP leaders said, was proof of the support they enjoyed among Delhiites despite the events of the past week.

According to AAP leaders, the artists who performed did not charge any money.
